Senior Care Comfort Grooming
A Friendly Note About Senior & Special‑Care Dog Grooming
As our beloved dogs grow older, their needs change—just like ours do. Sometimes this means we aren’t able to complete a groom exactly the way we have in the past, and that’s completely okay. Our priority is always your dog’s comfort, safety, and happiness.
Senior dogs can experience stiff joints, reduced stamina, or extra sensitivity to sounds like dryers or other dogs. These changes can make long grooming sessions a little harder for them.
For pups who need a gentler approach, we offer comfort grooming. This may include:
-
Being booked as the first dog of the day
-
Having two stylists present to safely support your dog (this does come with a small additional cost)
-
Breaking the groom into shorter stages so your dog can rest
-
Giving you a call to pick up your dog as soon as they’re ready
-
Adjusting or shortening their hairstyle to keep them comfortable
These small changes help us make grooming a positive experience for senior dogs, dogs recovering from illness or injury, and dogs with ongoing health concerns. Because of this, their final look may be a little different from what they had when they were younger—and that’s perfectly normal.
We’ll always keep you updated during your dog’s appointment and let you know if we notice anything unusual. We’re here to answer any questions you have at any time.
Just like people, senior dogs have good days and not‑so‑good days, and this can affect how much grooming they can comfortably tolerate. We recommend checking with your vet about any medications that may help your dog feel their best on grooming days. We’ll also ask you to sign a senior dog grooming release form.
Thank you so much for trusting us with your precious family member.
Warm regards, Charmaine and the Gosford Grooming Team
